Okay, I wrote a couple of days ago about how much I liked these “feel good” stories about how hard it is too be a mascot.
That was before I watched this abomination of mascot-ness.
In this bit, Wall Street Journal reporter Sophia Hollander gets the privilege of dressing up as the mascot for the New York Sportimes, a World TeamTennis club. The mascot is cleverly named Tennis The Menace.
(As a side note, who do you have to piss off to get this gig? First, you have to cover a tennis match, then you get to wear the mascot outfit?)
After watching Tennis the Menace run around a bit, Sophia went to his dressing room to change into the formerly dry outfit only to find out that people sweat when they are encased in a bunch of fur.
Donning a mascot suit that someone else… has worn for the better part of a July evening is not unlike moving into a shower, or a pile of lukewarm, drenched rags.
Duh.
Well, then Miss Hollander embarrases herself in front of the dozens of Tennis fans in attendance.
To top it all off, she takes off the mascot head to finish up her interview while children are walking by…
