If you’ve been around here before, you know my love for the media and their mascot reports doesn’t run too deep.

I don’t mind the occasional news story, or random shot of the mascot at a game, but when a “reporter” decides it is a good idea to put his or herself inside the suit… that’s where I draw the line.

This piece from KDLT in South Dakota showcases Cooper The Cougar from the University Of Sioux Falls. It’s actually not bad… my favorite part:

“Maybe I should have practiced some tricks or watched some YouTube videos…”

Either way, the reporter takes over after half-time and puts on a very sweaty Cougar outfit… oh yeah, my other favorite part is when the little girl says “Hi Cougar Bear.” Is it a Cougar or a Bear? huh.

Enjoy the video, and remember reporters… even Katie Couric started out this way.

In this commercial, Mr. Met tries his hand at designing a brochure for his fvorite team… the New York Mets.

What he comes up with is quite messy, and makes the executives very uncomfortable when they don’t know what to say.

Well, another season of hoping for a good Olympic mascot is over… Maybe 2016 will be good to us.

The organizing committee for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games has released their shortlist of mascots for voting.

And, other than not really being a “short” list, it includes some familiar and not so familiar faces.

First of all, there is Santa. I know, the Russians call him Ded Moroz, but that’s Santa Claus, plain and simple.

Then you have the obvious bear, a sexy cat, the sun, the Twitter bird, and a dolphin on skis.

If I do have to pick my favorite from this list, it would be the Matryoshka dolls. You know, thos eweird little dolls that stack inside each other. I think it represents RUssia, plus, I’d love to see a performer try and wear that outfit.

It’s only been since October that UGA VIII took over to represent the University Of Georgia Bulldogs.

But last Friday, UGA VIII passed away from complications stemming from his Lymphoma.

RIP UGA VIII, we barely knew you.

Well, if the USC school of Communication doesn’t do a report on it, it doesn’t exists, so thankfully, they took on a very hot topic in their latest video series called “Impact”.

That’s right, they featured mascots.

Now besides the dead pan narrator, the story is actually quite good, and goes into some of the unwritten rules of mascots, like what to do when kids attack.

You know, for one of the best film schools in the country, it’s amazing that they can’t do this show in widescreen or HD. What’s up USC?

Anyway, it’s a good story and features Roy Yarbrough, who has been dubbed a “Mascot Guru”.

Hey, I thought that was my title.

Impact Show #52 Features The Wild World OF Mascots video after the jump:

OK, call me old fashioned, but I remember a time when you actually had to wait until the Superbowl to see the commercials.

Anyway, with Steely McBeam from the Pittsburgh Steelers being the only mascot at this years big game, it’s nice to see some of the sponsors featuring mascots in their commercials.

This particular commercial is for Chevrolet and features a mascot hitting what appears to be a Chevrolet Camaro with a hammer.

The tides soon turn and the mascot goes for quite a (CGI) ride.

Someday, mascots will be treated like people too.

We saw last year that mascots can do some crazy things at the NFL Pro Bowl game.

But where else can a huge furry horse make out with an unassuming cheerleader?

Blue from the Indianapolis Colts tests his “game” with one of the cheerleaders from the Denver Broncos.

He doesn’t get far, unless you count the full make out session near the end of the video…

Oh boy, two soccer posts in the same day.. what has my life come to.

Well, in this case, I couldn’t pass it up. The popular show, Soccer AM has a feature they call 3rd Eye where they show some outtakes or second camera angle shots of soccer matches.

In this case, it’s Clarence the Dragon from Northampton Town who retrieves a ball and tries to return it only to catch the linesman right in the noggin’.

Classic Clarence, always looking to take out the hired help. Nice touch with the post-antics bow.
